Bryan Fisher Bio

Bryan Fisher is the Choral Department Chair and Director of Vocal Activities at Southwest High School. Originally from Lincoln, NE, he has lived in the Twin Cities since coming here for college. After attending Northwestern College, Fisher spent a few years singing professionally and pursuing voice and conducting as a graduate student at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. In 2008, he completed a Masters of Education in from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota. At Southwest, he directs choirs, the Spring Musical and a Spring ReVue show. He also serves as department chair and as a member of the leadership committee for the school. 

Before joining the music department at Southwest, Mr. Fisher taught at Cooper High School in New Hope, MN, as well as Burnsville High School. Fisher also served on the faculty of Crown College as choral director and instructor of private voice. For six years Fisher sang with The Dale Warland Singers, a professional chorus, and served as singer representative to the board of directors. He has also performed with numerous choirs and ensembles around the twin cities over the years, including The Singers - Minnesota Choral Artists, The Bach Society of MN and Minnesota Chorale.

Fisher is on the board of the vocal ensemble, Cantus, and is active in the MN chapter of the American Choral Director’s Association, serving as 2010 Fall Conference Coordinator, and serving as Fall Conference Program Chair in 2011, 2012 and 2013. He is also an active member of MENC (Music Educator’s National Conference).

From 2007-2012 Fisher directed and sang in Deviated Septet, a contemporary a cappella ensemble. He has also sang and played drums, guitar and keyboards for various bands. Fisher has been active in community and church choirs as a conductor or singer since college and he has directed more than 40 musicals, including: Guys and Dolls, Jekyll and Hyde, Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, Children of Eden, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Phantom (Yeston), The Music Man, Godspell, Once Upon a Mattress, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Sweet Charity, Les Miserables, RENT, Beauty & the Beast and A Chours Line, among others.

Fisher has been fortunate over the years to have had his choirs perform throughout the midwest, California, Michigan, Colorado, France, Florida, Hawaii and in New York at both St. John the Divine Cathedral and at Carnegie Hall.

Fisher lives in Minneapolis with his Husband, Josh, and their dog, Tina (a long-haired dachshund). When not waving his arms for a living, he can be found doing projects around the house, gardening, doing woodworking, spending time with friends and sipping strong coffee with cream.
