I am excited to be in my 7th year teaching at South High School!
I was born and raised in Burnsville, Minnesota where I was able to sing in choir growing up and participate in several youth orchestras throughout the Twin Cities. I attended St. Olaf college to study music and anthropology. After graduating, I took a fellowship in Juneau, Alaska to teach elementary and high school orchestra and choir that was rooted in the values and pedagogies of El Sistema. After receiving my teaching license and masters degree in teaching from the University of Alaska Southeast, I accepted a Fulbright grant to teach in Sarawak Malaysia, on the island of Borneo. There, I learned so much about diverse types and styles of music as well as explored equity in music education. In 2018, I returned to Minnesota and was fortunate to be hired as the orchestra teacher at South High School, where I have worked to establish an equitable and diverse instrumental music program for the last 5 years.
I live at home with my boyfriend, Brett and Dog, Olive. When I am not teaching, I am out playing with my bands locally, trying out new restaurants, visiting state parks with Brett and Olive, camping, or trying a new recipe.
Music is an integral part in every students' education. My goal is that every student can experience something greater than themselves by participating in a music ensemble, with the understanding that music and the arts can be used as a catalyst for all learning.
