Social Emotional Learning is one of the strategic priorities of the Minneapolis Public Schools and a key lever for ensuring we're achieving more equitable outcomes for all students. Along with helping schools understand what it means to implement SEL as part of your continuous school improvement process, the implementation toolkit will provide links to resources and documents to support you throughout the exploration, implementation, and improvement stages.
The brief introduction below will help you understand how the toolkit is laid out and how to use it to drive meaningful change at your school. Click on the circles to explore those pages, or use the navigation menu at the top of this page.
The Definitional Tools page provides a brief overview of SEL, along with its research basis and the rationale for why we are implementing this priority across the district. The Definitional Tools will help you communicate with your school community about SE
In the first year schools will focus on completing exploration activities to make sure your school is ready to implement SEL practices for developing adult and then student SEL skills. Pre-cohort schools will complete these essential activities for the first time, while schools that participated in the cohort in will verify they have completed the steps with fidelity. These activities will ensure all schools are ready to move on to installing and implementing practices to develop the five SEL skills in both adults and students. After completing the exploration activities schools will focus on implementing Adult SEL.
