What is Read&Write for Google?
Read&Write for Google is a literacy support tool that offers help with tasks like reading text out loud, understanding unfamiliar words, voice typing, researching assignments, translation, and proofing written work. The built-in toolbar provides a suite of tools available to all Minneapolis Public School staff and students.
How can Read&Write support all of our learners?
There are features and tools to support every student, from English language learners to students receiving special education to high achievers.
English language learners- Read&Write provides tools for students whose first language isn't English. To help with pronunciation, spelling, and recognition of English words.
High achievers- Proofreading and highlighting tools are a great way to organize ideas and self-check essays and assignments.
Special Education- There are a whole host of tools designed to help individuals with special needs including screen readers and voice typing.
Middle Band- Read&Write has a lot of tools to support students in the "middle." Tools like voice typing is a popular feature that allows students to type with their voice.
Low attainment group- For those students who just need a little extra help, Read&Write can be a great boost. Spelling and grammar checkers give them greater confidence allowing them to self-check their own work and screen readers allow students to that struggle with reading to have the screen read to them.

How do I get Read&Write for my students? This tool is pre-installed for all MPS students.
Where is Read&Write located? This tool is available whenever students are logged in to their MPS Google account. It is the purple puzzle icon extension located next to the Chrome browser window.
