Weekly Homework
Practice spelling words or meanings of Greek / Latin root words nightly.
Practice math facts 5 minutes nightly. Currently students should brush up on their multiplication facts. Focus on a few facts a night and then add a couple more each day. We want students to get away from counting on their fingers. Remind your child of the strategies: double x2s=x4s, double x4s=x8s, x10s - (one group)=x9s [9x7= (10x7)- (1x7)]. Practice skip counting by 3s as you go about daily chores or drive! Work especially on x0s, x1s, x2s, x3s, x4s, x5s, x10s. Ready for more? Try x6s, x8s, x9s, and x7s!
Read for at least 20 minutes each school night. Please read non-fiction three nights a week and fiction for 2 nights a week. Graphic novels, Dogman, Big Nate, Diary of a Wimpy Kid type books are great for extra reading and weekend reading, but this year we are also going to dive into interesting non-fiction and good literature. Books can be checked out from the school library and the Hennepin County libraries (hclib).
On Fridays students will be given a math assignment which will be due the following Wednesday. Although some assignments will be from other sources, most will come from the Home Connection math book, sent home the week of 9/11. I will list on this site the pages that should be completed, carefully torn out (adult help on the tearing, please), and returned to school. Due the week of May 20: pp127,129,130. Due the week after Memorial Day: pp135,136.
Special projects
We have library time on Mondays, right after our specialist time. If you could use ideas, our librarians have come up with a list of books they recommend for our nightly reading homework.
