Meet the Librarian

Hello! I am Desiree Hyrkas (pronounced her-kiss), Pillsbury's licensed Library Media Specialist.

I have my Bachelor’s Degree in German from the College of Saint Benedict and a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from Dominican University, with education classes from Saint Catherine University. I also have taken a course from the College of St. Scholastica on integrating coding into the classroom.

I have been teaching in the library since 2005. I taught for a private school in Anoka for seven years before moving to Minneapolis Public Schools in 2012. I started at Pillsbury in 2022.

I am originally from northern Minnesota and enjoy fishing, camping, and hiking in the woods. I now live in Golden Valley with my two dogs, one of whom is taking agility classes. My hobbies include pottery, gardening (though not always with success), fostering dogs, and (of course!) reading.
