All eligible seniors in the Class of 2022 who are planning on attending college after graduation must fill out the 2022-23 FAFSA. This is the only way to determine your eligibility for State & Federal Grant (FREE MONEY!) as well as Federal Student loans, which have the lowest interest rate of any type of student loan.
You can begin the FAFSA while you are still deciding where to apply! You can list up to 10 schools to send your information to, even if you haven't submitted your application yet.
We recommend using your personal email address for all college related items so you don't lose access to communication

Most students are considered a "Dependent Student" and REQUIRED TO PROVIDE financial information for their legal parent/guardian.
Some students are considered "Independent" and DO NOT have to provide parental information. There are a number of indicators, including:
Having been in foster care at anytime after the age of 13
Determined to be homeless or highly mobile
Being a student who is parenting
*If you think you should be considered an "Independent Student" but do not meet any of the criteria you can contact the college's financial aid office for an appeal called a "dependency override"

The student and at least 1 parent/legal guardian must have a FSA ID in order to sign and submit the FAFSA.
An FSA ID is a username and password that you can use to log in to certain U.S. Department of Education (ED) websites.
A personal email address is required for both the student and parent to create and access your FSA ID.
You can create your FSA ID as early as possible, even if you haven't applied to colleges yet or not quite ready to complete the FAFSA.
The FSA ID is also how tax return information can be automatically imported into the FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT)
For the Class of 2021:
On the 2021–22 FAFSA form, you and your parent(s) will report your 2019 income information. Ensure you have:
Access to Online Records or Paper Copy of 2019 Tax Returns (if filed)
Social Security Numbers
W2 Forms from 2019
Current Balance of Banks Accounts
Records of any untaxed income
You will always complete the FAFSA for the year you will be IN college
Some students are selected at random by individual colleges to complete the verification process. It does not necessarily mean you've done something wrong.
If you’re selected for verification, your school will request additional documentation that supports the information you reported on the FAFSA.
You will receive an estimated financial aid award letter from each college you are accepted to.
