Dowling Have a Great Summer!! It has been an honor to have been your P.E. and Pool teacher for 30 years. Nick Dorek will be your new teacher!
Dowling Students and Families,
Welcome to P.E and Pool with Paul. I am structured and focused on student learning. I believe in learning lifetime activities that extend beyond school. This year Physical education for 1st thru 5th, will be 1 day in the gym and 1 day in the pool. Kindergarten: I will always see you in the Gym.
To All Students: My goal is to provide you with learning opportunities that will enhance your physical and mental skills; building on what you have previously learned. Exercise and movement are vital for a healthy body and help focus an active brain. Remember: Keep Moving!
At the top of the page you will see grade level tabs: The tabs are for each grade level and provide more grade level specific instructions. The information for the grade levels will change at least quarterly and I will add curriculum often.
I have 5 general rules that I follow and will go into more detail with the students:
Safety (responsible to not hurt yourself, others, or equipment)
Come prepared (mind, body, and clothing to move and participate)
Try your best (it's ok to make mistakes, but challenge yourself to be better)
Listen and Follow directions (Be conscious of what your asked to do with safety as a priority to provide opportunities for learning. Seek understanding if confused or having trouble)
Have Fun (participation increases learning, overcomes boredom, makes life more enjoyable)
For Gym: Please have your child wear clothing and shoes or comfortable foot wear for locomotor movement and activities in the gym. As we move to cooler and then winter, I ask that each student have sneakers in their locker to change out of boots. This will ensure a comfortable day on the feet and also provide the footwear for indoor activity.
For Pool: Please have students bring a swim suit, towel, and a bag to carry it all in. Goggles are ok to use in the pool but are not provided. The first part of the school year is swim lessons then lifetime aquatic activities. Our water lessons will include, water comfort, swim lessons, kayaks, canoes, snorkeling, and for 4th and 5th Grade. SCUBA Diving in the pool.
