We started this group during the pandemic with just a few attending our first conference.
Just three years later, 52 of our hardest-working Millers joined other motivated high school students to discuss world issues at the MUNUC convention in Chicago.
Each year we practice our speaking, negotiation and problem-solving skills at the one-day United Nations Association of Minnesota conference at Macalester College thanks to a grant from the Washburn Foundation.
One of our favorite traditions is a yearly trip to multiple markets which represent the many different groups of people who have made the Twin Cities their home. We'd like to thank the Miller Mart for supporting our latest trip.
At least twice a year the Washburn Model United Nations gets together with other concerned teens to talk about world issues while playing the part of different member countries of the actual United Nations. This year we'll be meeting most Thursdays in Room 004. Please see Mr. Jirsa to get on our mailing list.
Each year eight students compete in the Academic Worldquest sponsored by Global Minnesota.
Each year we attend the YMCA Model United Nations Conference in downtwon Minneapolis. We'd like to thank the Ann Bancroft Foundation for their support.
With the help of theJohn and Denise Graves Foundation, we were able to train a group of Model United Nations members to run an in-school Model UN experience for all of our ninth grade students.
While I've made an effort to thank some of our generous sponsors, I should also mention that our members work hard to raise enough funds to ensure that everyone can participate in Model UN regardless of their ability to pay.
