The Affordable Connectivity Program is an FCC benefit program that helps ensure that households can afford the broadband they need for work, school, healthcare and more.
The benefit provides a discount of up to $30 per month toward internet service for eligible households and up to $75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal lands. Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers if they contribute more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase price. PCs for People is a nonprofit social enterprise working to get low-cost quality computers and internet into the homes of individuals, families, and nonprofits with low income. By recycling and then refurbishing computers, PCs for People provides a valuable service to businesses, families, and the planet.
WISP is our own wireless network in partnership with Hennepin County. It is currently in a pilot phase with a coverage area near E Lake Street and a coverage area near the Davis Center. Those in the coverage areas are eligible for a free modem and free monthly service. The set up is easy, and there are no hidden fees, no contracts, and no credit check.
We offer quality refurbished desktops and laptops to eligible recipients as well as new mobile internet hotspots that use the T-mobile network. Prices range from $50 - $150+ depending on the specs of laptop or desktop. These devices can be purchased at our retail store, online, or through a pop-up shop event at your location organized with krakotoarivelo@pcsforpeople.com & tmoss@pcsforpeople.com
To shop with us, customers must be currently participating in a government-based assistance program or have a qualifying household income (under 200% of the federal poverty level or under 60% of area median income).
Your devices will be assessed, data-sanitized, and then refurbished and provided to families, individuals and nonprofits in need, or recycled (zero-landfill).
