A little about me...
My name is Marvin Peterson, generally Mr. Peterson with my students. I grew up in the Twin Cities and have spent the majority of my life in the area. I graduated from Robbinsdale Armstrong Senior High and grew up in the western suburbs of Minneapolis. I immediately went to the University of Wisconsin but stayed for a short time as it never felt like the right fit. I returned to the Twin Cities to search for the right college path and an employer that would help pay for my education. I continued to work for the YMCA of the greater Twin Cities area, and I spent 9 years working in various positions from Swim Instructor/Lifeguard, to Aquatics Coordinator, and eventually in to sales and marketing. Despite working full time, I continued to pursue my education. Eventually, I found my calling in education at Metropolitan State University's Urban Teaching Program. I completed my undergraduate, and completed my Masters in Urban Teaching at Metro as well as a 2nd master's degree at Bethel University. While in school I had the opportunity to work with Hopkins Public Schools as well as being a district substitute for Minneapolis Public Schools.
My partner and I have 3 adorable children, on their best days. ;) I have 3 furry friends, two of them generally makes a woof noise, and the other one tends to meow. I love basketball, and the winter, unless I can be on a beach. I want to travel everywhere. I enjoy biking, going for walks around the lake with the kids, and seeing how many movies I can quote in a single day.
You will likely hear from your student(s) that I am energetic, that I think I am funny, I am passionate about learning, and I genuinely believe that every student is important and deserves to be heard.
My preferred pronouns are he/him.
