Radial Weaving

After painting designs on a paper plate

the fourth grade classes weaved in a circle.

RAINBOWS

The Kindergarteners mixed primary colors to complete this rainbow. They added texture with pom poms, noodles, gems, and cotton.

Birch Trees

First we used torn up tape as a paint resistant.

The fourth grade classes used purple and blue colors to make a cool background. The final touch was the salt that left behind a wintery texture.

Once the paper was dry students used sharpie to add contour lines to each birch tree.

Poppies

In honor of Veteran's Day

the 3rd grade classes painted a textured blue paper

and added red poppies.

The red poppies are made with paper towels while the stems were made using straws and black watercolor.

The Northern Cardinal

This is one of my favorite projects!

First graders followed a series of drawing steps to capture the Northern Cardinal.

Pencil, sharpie, oil pastels, and watercolor

completed the beauty of this bird!

Haring Figure Drawing

Keith Haring inspired our fourth graders

to draw dancing figures using markers.

Evergreen Trees

Using cool, winter colors these 3rd grade students mixed light to dark colors.

The evergreens and splatter of snow gives a chilly Minnesota feeling!

SING ABOUT MARTIN!

Using warm colors the Kindergarten classes painted tints

and shades of each color adding rollers for texture.

We sang about Martin Luther King Jr.

and honored him through a peace sign collage.

The Snowy Day

After reading Ezra Jack Keats The Snowy Day

the Kindergarten classes used shaving cream to marble the snow in order to look like the illustrations in Keats book.

Next they collaged Peter and a stop light scene from the book.

ANIMAL EYES

OWLS, LIZARDS, ZEBRAS, TIGERS, OH MY!

THESE 5TH GRADE STUDENTS TRANSFERRED A SMALL CLOSE UP PHOTO OF THE ANIMAL EYE OF THEIR CHOICE AND DREW IT LARGER USING PENCIL.

Over the summer Loring Artists competed in the

Minnesota State Fair Art Competition.

Although no one made it into the fair they received a ribbon!

"Here are my hands with ten fingers in all.

My first mark in school to hang on the wall.

As years go by, I'll remember and say,

My hands and I had a very good day!"

I painted the high five hands to print and they created a secondary color.

It was a very good project!

The Starry Minneapolis

After looking at the Minneapolis Skyline and Van Gogh's Starry Night

first graders used oil pastel and collaged recycled paper.

zentangle LANDSCAPES

First quarter is spent talking about lines.

The fourth grade repeated lines making different designs, we call them zentangles!

They are beautifully drawn within their sunrise and sets.

These OWLS are a hoot!

The Kindergarten classes painted for the first time using neutral colors.

Next they created an owl puzzle. Drawing and cutting out all of the pieces of an owl.

PUMPKINS ON A VINE

After reading about Stillwater's Giant Pumpkin competition 2nd grade students got to work growing their own pumpkins.

It started with some water and shades of orange.

It later grew into 3 pumpkins on a vine with some oil pastel help.

2D SHAPES

First quarter is spent studying lines and shapes.

These second graders created an overlapping design tracing different 2D shapes and then painted them using monochromatic colors.

CONTOUR LINES

The 3rd grade class traced their hands and made them come alive using contour lines!

ME

The third graders wrote about themselves... on themselves

using oil pastel and blending stumps.
