I live in Northeast Minneapolis with my husband, Mark. While I was born and raised in Eastern Washington State (Davenport, WA - Go, Gorillas!) I moved to Minneapolis in 1994 to pursue a career in the music industry.
In 1997, I decided to go back to college and become a teacher. I graduated from the University of Minnesota, TC in 1999 with a BA in History with an emphasis in American Indian History and Culture. I moved to Olympia, WA to attend The Evergreen State College where I earned my Master in Teaching in 2001.
I started teaching in 2001 in contract alternative high schools here in Minneapolis, moving on to school leadership in 2005. I earned my Ed.S. from the University of St. Thomas in 2015. And in April of 2017, I became an Assistant Principal at Edison High School, serving that wonderful community until Spring of 2023.
I am beyond humbled to be the Principal for Longfellow Alternative High School. This will be my 26th year in education and it feels like home to be in Alternative Education. I believe that education is the true liberator and opens the entire world to those lucky enough to receive it. Longfellow provides a place for young people to come to be seen and heard. Our students leave Longfellow with all the skills necessary to live happy joy-filled lives and provide that same joy for their children.
We know our students come to us already geniuses. It is our job to help them unleash that brilliance!
