Grade 5 Resource Learning

Hi and welcome, fifth grade students and families! My name is Lily Rothbart, and I'm the special education teacher for fifth grade here at Folwell.

I started teaching English/Language Arts in Minneapolis in 1994. I switched to Special Education (K-12) in 2000, and taught at several schools around the district before I settled here at Folwell. I usually work with 4th and 5th graders, but this year I'm excited to participate in just the 5th grade.

As a special education teacher I draw on a wide variety of resources to help our students catch up in reading, writing and math including the Moving with Math program, Language (a literacy curriculum), and Kansas Learning Strategies for writing fundamentals. We also read literature leveled to students' abilities to help them develop vocabulary and comprehension skills.

Teaching is my passion, because I love the idea of helping my students get better at reading, writing and math. I believe every day is a new day, that every child can learn, and every day is a new opportunity, whether it's to gain new information or new habits.

I value the input of parents because you are the experts on your children, and I look forward to working with you to help your child be successful.
