About Ms. Chase

A little background

I grew up in and still live in Minneapolis. I’m a product of the Minneapolis Public Schools and have fond memories of my days as a student in the district. I’m a proud member of the Patrick Henry class of 1981! Bet you didn’t think I was that old! While at Henry, I played tennis, basketball and badminton. I also was in the concert and marching band. I’ve been teaching in Minneapolis since the fall of 1987 and have been here at Lake Harriet Community School, which was formerly Audubon, since 1989. It has been a privilege to be here all of these years!

My Education

I’m a 1984 graduate of the Lutheran Bible Institute in Seattle, WA. I graduated with a Certificate in Biblical Studies. In 1987 I graduated from Augsburg College with my Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and Teaching. In 1998 I completed a Master of Education from St. Mary’s University in Winona.

How I like to spend my time

You can often find me involved in things at church, doing physically active things, or making music. All are fundamental in making up who I am.

I like to bike, walk, run, cross cross-country ski, kayak, canoe, [My favorite place to canoe is in the BWCA], camp, hike [especially in the Mountains], geocache, and travel. Some of my favorite trips have been trips to Colorado, Asia (Hong Kong, Nepal and Tibet), England, Slovakia, and Tanzania, where I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro! Another accomplishment in the mountain realm was climbing Mt. Rainier in WA! Most recently, I've tried a little solo hike-in camping! This summer I hiked to a beautiful site at Crosby Manitou State Park. My site sat right along the rapids of the Manitou River.

One of my favorite hobbies is geocaching. I started "caching" in 2006. It's a great hobby that involves two things that I enjoy - being outside in nature and being "techie". If you're unfamiliar with geocaching, it's like high-tech treasure hunting using a gps unit or a geocaching app on your phone. It's a great family activity if you're looking for something new to try.

A few years ago I went sky diving! I went tandem, not solo, so I had someone who knew what he was doing strapped to me. And in 2012 I bought a scooter, got my motorcycle license and love driving it all over town, including to work!

Music has always been a part of my life and is a passion of mine. I love to sing whenever I have the opportunity, whether it’s by myself, with friends, or leading or singing for a group. I also play clarinet, piano, and guitar, and penny whistle.

I enjoy just spending time at home also. I have two crazy cats named Summit and Glacier. They keep me on my toes.
