Classroom Essentials

Come to class everyday with the following items:

  • Pencil/Pen
  • Notebook
  • Folder to hold your materials (majority of stuff will be done online)
  • Calculator (might be able to use phones but calculator is probably easier to use)
  • Questions!
  • Good attitude

Syllabus - Make sure you have read and understand how the class works.

Grading:

  • We are going to use the MYP criterion for grading this year. The grade book will be set up using five categories (Criterion A - D and Flipgrid). Each summative assessment (not daily work) will be graded using a rubric and be worth 8 points. I am looking for growth from the beginning of the year so I expect to see lower scores to begin with and higher scores at the end of a quarter. Lower grades at the beginning of the quarter will not impact your grade nearly as much as lower scores at the end of the quarter.
  • There are no retakes. However if a student wishes to come up with a replacement assessment on their own to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the material he/she may do so. The same rubrics will be used to assess the new assessment. Other work (more homework, fix your mistakes on test, etc.) may be required before a student is allowed to do a replacement assessment. Talk to your teacher if you wish to do a replacement assessment.
  • Grading Scale
    • 8 = A
    • 7 = A-
    • 6 = B
    • 5 = B-
    • 4 = C
    • 3 = C-
    • 2 = D
    • 1 = No Credit (NC)
    • 0 = No Credit (NC)

Google Classroom and Flipgrid

We will be using these two webpages daily/weekly. Google Classroom will be used to assign and collect homework. Flipgrid will be used to record videos to demonstrate your understanding of materials. Directions and how to use these will be covered in class. QR codes and links will be provided in class.

Parents can be added to Google Classroom. Email me with your name and name of your student and I'll get you added.
