Summer Program


June 28th - August 11th

Join us this summer at Franklin Middle School! We are back with fun and engaging activities for youth entering 1st-9th grade. Programming is Monday-Thursday (not Fridays) 9:15 am. -3:00 pm. Program is FREE and includes breakfast and lunch. Transportation provided to MPS students.

SCHEDULE

Breakfast

9:20-9:30 pm - Morning Circle

9:30-10:30 pm - Homeroom / Class Lead

10:30-11:30 pm - Rotation 1 (GISE/GEMS)

11:30-12:20 pm - Lunch & Recess

12:30-1:30 pm - Rotation 2

1:30-2:30 pm - Rotation 3 (GISE/GEMS)

2:30-3:00 pm - Homeroom / Class Lead

3:00-3:15 pm - Dismissal

Students rotate through activities with their age cohort and pick from a variety of choice activities based on interest.

COVID Safety

All Staff and students are required to wear face masks at all times as well as practice social distancing remaining 6 ft. apart. Participants are required to complete the daily at home health checks and stay home if they are feeling sick. We will update families if COVID safety changes per CDC recommendations.

Provided for all MPS students to their nearest corner stops.

Program Design

The Beacons Summer Program engages young people as leaders and learners, providing opportunities for leadership, and 21st Century skill development. Program is set up to support student voice and choice so they have a variety of classes to choose from each day. Class facilitators work in partnership with young people and honor students' unique interests. Beacons creates a powerful sense of belonging and identity through shared rituals and traditions. Beacons embraces and celebrates the rich cultures across the Twin Cities area.

Class offerings: STEM with a licensed teacher, Swimming lessons, biking, fitness club, outdoor games and sports, art, music production, DJing, gardening, nature adventures.

Partnerships: YWCA, Lundstrum Performing Arts, Free Arts, MacPhail, Cowles, Minnesota Zoo, Minneapolis Public Schools Nutrition Center, Minneapolis Public Libraries, Wildling, KBEM, Urban World
