A resource page for MPS teachers and staff
Our mission at MPS Culinary & Wellness Services (CWS) is to nurture all children through access to quality food and active living. Through this mission, we offer a variety of resources to help MPS teachers and staff deliver high-quality food education to students.
Food education goes beyond nutrition education and personal health! This education strategy includes the role food plays in our health, climate, environment, economy, culture, and so much more. Food education explores connections, feelings, and stories to nourish the body, mind, and spirit. Learning how food is integrated and central to our world views and experiences will foster student resiliency, community inclusivity, and a culture of wellbeing.
Our classroom food education programs, such as the Classroom Cooking Kits, Bike Blender Kits, Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program, and Guest Presentations from the Dietitian, enable young people to connect the food they eat to the way it was grown and how it makes them feel.
Mini Food & Nutrition Lessons
Explore our mini-lessons catered to K-10 students to spark meaningful discussions about balanced meals, where food comes from, and more! Easy-to-use and adapt, these activities are designed to introduce students to a variety of nutrition-related topics.
At qualifying elementary schools, students can taste and learn about fresh fruits and vegetables in their classroom through the federal Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP). The goal of this program is to expose students to a variety of produce and increase excitement for trying healthy foods.
