Obtaining a driver’s license and driving a car is a privilege that comes with serious responsibility. The following is a list of expectations students must abide by, in order to attend and pass this class:
I understand that driving a car is a privilege that comes with serious responsibilities. I will respect my instructor, the guidelines for the classroom and the method of teaching that is presented to me.
I will attend every class session, be on time, and fully engaged in learning at each class session.
I will be prepared to learn every day by bringing my study materials and a writing utensil.
I will communicate with my instructor. I understand my instructor wants me to succeed and pass this class. I will advocate for myself by asking questions if I do not understand the material presented.
I will take care of myself by bringing a snack and drink (if needed) to have during our short class breaks.
I will use self-control and put my cell phone away during class time. (Not only does cell phone use disrupt learning, it is illegal and deadly to use while driving. If you cannot exercise the self-control to put your phone away during class, then you are not ready to attend this class. Our instructors reserve the right to confiscate phones)
I understand that failure to follow these expectations may result in the student being removed from class and that class tuition fees will not be refunded if I am removed from class or if I do not complete the 30-hours of scheduled class time.
Classes are highly structured and there is NO flexibility for missing classes or making-up the work.
MN state law requires students to participate in all 30-hours of classroom education.
All students, ages 14 - 18, are eligible to participate in Minneapolis Community Ed's Driver's Education Classroom Instruction Course.
Students must be at least 14-years-old to participate in class, they must be at least 15-years-old to obtain their instruction driving permit.
FAIR students are given priority to enroll in this class. Non-MPS and home-schooled students, call 612-668-1065 to inquire about eligibility.
Registration dates coincide with Minneapolis Community Education's Fall, Winter, Spring & Summer sessions.
Registration is available on-line (or in-person, by special arrangement), at this time.
First come, first served, class size is limited to 30 students.
Class openings are filled from waiting lists. Communications will be made by email with a response required within 72 hours or less.
Payment must be made in full at the time of registration.
