Snow Days

Snow Days become E-Learning Days

Instruction for MPS students will continue this winter even on days when winter weather makes travel difficult. School buildings will be closed in the event of severe weather and students will attend Distance Learning classes online. See what conditions are considered severe HERE.

  • In the event of building closures, students will have classes online.

  • The decision to move to Distance Learning will be made no later than 5:30 AM on the day of inclement weather. Families will be notified via all major news media, the MPS homepage, MPS social media, and emails, robocalls and texts.

  • Students should follow their regular schedule for the respective day. For example, if school buildings are closed on a Tuesday, students should follow their "A Day" schedule.

  • Students should log into Google Classroom at the beginning of each class period. They can click on the Google Meet to attend class.

  • Teachers will provide at least 40 minutes of synchronous instruction and/or support via Google Meet on A and B days and 20 minutes on C days.

  • Class work will be available on Google Classroom at the beginning of each class.

  • Attendance will be taken during the Google Meet for each class. In the event that a student cannot attend class online as scheduled, parents/guardians should call the Attendance Office (612-668-1311) in order to excuse the absence. Classwork from Snow Days will be accepted from all students, even those whose absences are unexcused.

  • On "B Days", Advisory will meet as scheduled in Google Meet. Students can still utilize this time (after announcements/grade checks) to meet virtually with clubs or teachers.

  • For a list of food resources when our school buildings are closed, visit the City of Minneapolis website.
