The Special Education team, including Resource and School-Based (SB), serves students who qualify for services through the Individualized Education Program (IEP). Eligible students receiving special education services through the Resource Department have a variety of needs with different educational labels and disabilities. These students receive direct support from a licensed Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT). Students served through the resource model of programming have a range of supports and services, including multiple general education classes with their non-disabled peers. Eligible students typically have accommodations and modifications to support their access to curriculum and learning in all classes. Special Education classes offered and taught by SERTs have a lower student-to-teacher ratio with modified methods, pacing, and curricula used to meet individual student needs.
Special Education student programming follows the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), a law that makes available a free appropriate public education to eligible children with disabilities. Student programming is developed through the IEP Team and individualized for specific students.
