DAPE Service Eligibility

The student is eligible for developmental adapted physical education: special education if the team determines the pupil meets the criteria in items 1. and 2.

1. Disability 

The student has one of the following disabilities in each respective criteria in parts 3525.1325 to 3525.1341, 3525.1345 and 3525.1354: autism spectrum disorders, deaf-blind, emotional or behavioral disorders, deaf or hard of hearing, developmental cognitive disability, developmental delay, severely multiply impaired, other health disability, physically impaired, blind or visually impaired, traumatic brain injury or part 3525.1350, subpart 3. The student qualifies as having the following disability(ies): Physically Impaired A

2. Evaluation The student is determined by the team to need specially designed physical education instruction because:

A. Standardized psychomotor evaluation or physical fitness test, administered individually by an appropriately licensed teacher (performing at 1.5 deviations (SD) or more below the mean);

B. Development, or achievement and independence in school, home and community settings is inadequate to allow success in regular physical education program based on at least two of the following: motor and skill checklists; informal tests; criterion-referenced measures; parent and staff interviews; systematic observations; medical history or reports; deficits in achievement related to the defined curriculum; and social, emotional, and behavioral assessments.
