Concert Band: Ensemble that consists of woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Comprised of 9th-12th grade students with prior wind or percussion experience.
Symphonic Band: Honors ensemble that consists of woodwinds, brass and percussion. Comprised of mostly 10th-12th grade students with prior wind or percussion experience. This ensemble is AUDITION ONLY or teacher recommendation. The repertoire of this ensemble is extensive and advanced. Students are expected to participate in full year concerts and in cougar time rehearsals.
Percussion Ensemble: All students who play percussion 9th-12th are placed in percussion ensemble. Students will then learn the music for their respected ensemble. Percussion ensemble also performs percussion only pieces and focuses on the fundamental rudiments of playing a percussion instrument. Students in this ensemble should have prior percussion experience.
Guitar 1: An elective course that can be taken WITHOUT any prior music or guitar experience. Comprised of 9th-12th grade students. Students will learn music fundamentals and the basics of playing guitar.Â
Guitar 2: A sequential elective to guitar 1. Students must complete the requirements of guitar 1 in order to be placed in guitar 2. Students will continue their growth and knowledge in music and guitar playing.
Pep Band: MPHS offers a pep band that performs at home basket ball games from late December-February. This ensemble performs at both Girls and Boys games.
