This is a fully-online course. All course activities and resources can be found through our course website on Canvas (through Lobo Apps). At designated times throughout the semester, we will participate in a blend of self-paced and group-paced activities using Canvas such as discussion forums, email, journaling, and project sharing. All of the learning activities will be completed in your own time so long as they are completed by the dates and times shown in the course schedule.
There is an attendance policy that is enforced in the first 3 days of class through an introduction / welcome discussion post. Your first post must be made by the 3rd day of the class at midnight, that is how attendance is taken, you run the risk of being dropped in one of my online courses if you miss that assignment for attendance. This is detailed in the syllabus, welcome module, and through a course announcement partnered with a follow-up final reminder announcement on the 3rd day. Online courses require the same level of engagement as if we were showing up to class in-person, we just have to show up online on our own time within the bounds of the assignment due dates. I want you in my class! You have to decide if you want to be in the class :).
I do my best to make sure the syllabus is up to date and ready for you at the start of the semester. Sometimes things happen (weather, pandemic, power outages, etc.). It is possible that the syllabus may need to change, due dates may need adjusted throughout the semester. I will always make a course announcement through canvas to notify you if a change is made, make the change on this syllabus and offer to answer any questions you may have.
To reach our Canvas class website click Lobo Apps from the main MPC Website (www.mpc.edu). You will need access to the Internet and a supported Web browser. For 24/7 technical support click the Help link in the left column in Canvas.
Continuously developing and sustaining a safe classroom environment where all students are cherished and supported. My goal is to always ensure that the classroom is a place of awareness and acceptance; ensuring that all students feel a sense of security and can learn and thrive.
Read through the modules. This sounds simple, but it is tempting to always go to the assignments and skip the module. Don’t do that. Start at the beginning and go all the way through.
Whether you are a business major or not, you should take this class. Not only is it useful to understand the concepts of business, but it is also very beneficial for real life situations in the workplace. Dr. Peelman is knowledgeable about how to navigate the workplace. She also teaches you how to look at the news and see all of the business aspects in it.
Read the textbook and don't slack off on your work.
I would advise students to have good time management skills and pay attention to each section of the book as it has very useful information.
If I were giving advice to a student starting this course, I would tell them to make sure they’re gaining a solid understanding of the chapters to be ready for writing the case studies.
The best aspect was listening to everyone's presentations every week and seeing the comments or new ideas they had. Definitely something I looked forward to every week.
The best aspect of this class was that she provides feedback and wants to see us grow! I am so grateful that you let me fix a case study. I genuinely was not expecting a higher grade and just wanted to complete the assignment properly. She will give you real feedback and you can use it to earn a higher grade.
I would advise students to pay attention to the textbook and take advantage of the case study papers because they are truly so important and helpful to those interested in a business degree.
The best aspect was that this class was that it was really organized, and the instructor was always there when you had questions. That was greatly appreciated since I have experienced rude instructors before. The case studies are worth a ton of your grade so make sure you turn them in!
The advice I would give to student's is take your time with the assignments because all the assignments provided allowed me to learn a lot about business and how to operate one, and I think if you really took the time to consume the information in this class, you could learn even more than you think.
The class is straight forward, the only way to fail is if you don't do the work or ask her for help if you need it.
If you want to learn from experience this is the right class to take. In the discussions you learn a lot about people and their successes or failures
Stick to the schedule. Assignments are typically due the same time each week and you can see ahead of time what case study topics you will need to write about. This allows you to do the research in advance, then you do not have to cram the night before.
My favorite discussion was when we got to pick our own business that was owned by a woman. I believe women in the business industry are powerful. It is also hard to be part of the business world as a woman.
Normally I hate writing papers, but the content was so interesting to me that I was able to get into it. The Introspection involved with the all the writing assignments helped me to stay engaged. Dr. Peelman lays everything out for you, you know what to expect throughout the whole semester from day 1 and she never throws a surprise at you.
Take it! Even if your degree isn't going towards business, this is a great informational class.
We are so excited you're here @
