Explore accounting as an information system, emphasizing its importance and how investors, creditors, and others use it to make decisions. The curriculum covers the accounting information system, including the recording and reporting of business transactions, with a focus on the accounting cycle, applying generally accepted accounting principles, analyzing financial statements, and communicating results. The course also addresses issues related to asset, liability, and equity valuation, revenue and expense recognition, cash flow, internal controls, and ethics. [Formerly BUSI 1A]

This is a fully-online course. All course activities and resources can be found through our course website on Canvas (through Lobo Apps). At designated times throughout the semester, we will participate in a blend of self-paced and group-paced activities using Canvas such as discussion forums, email, journaling, and project sharing. All of the learning activities will be completed in your own time so long as they are completed by the dates and times shown in the course schedule.
There is an attendance policy that is enforced in the first 3 days of class through an introduction / welcome discussion post. Your first post must be made by the 3rd day of the class at midnight, that is how attendance is taken, you run the risk of being dropped in one of my online courses if you miss that assignment for attendance. This is detailed in the syllabus, welcome module, and through a course announcement partnered with a follow-up final reminder announcement on the 3rd day. Online courses require the same level of engagement as if we were showing up to class in-person, we just have to show up online on our own time within the bounds of the assignment due dates. I want you in my class! You have to decide if you want to be in the class :).
I do my best to make sure the syllabus is up to date and ready for you at the start of the semester. Sometimes things happen (weather, pandemic, power outages, etc.). It is possible that the syllabus may need to change, due dates may need adjusted throughout the semester. I will always make a course announcement through canvas to notify you if a change is made, make the change on this syllabus and offer to answer any questions you may have.
To reach our Canvas class website click Lobo Apps from the main MPC Website (www.mpc.edu). You will need access to the Internet and a supported Web browser. For 24/7 technical support click the Help link in the left column in Canvas.

Great class if you are interested in accounting. Good luck to future students with this class, it’s hard, but you will learn a lot.
I took this course in the same semester as BUSI 10 (business math). I would recommend taking BUSI 10 the semester before taking financial accounting (BUSI 3A). BUSI 3A was weeks ahead. For example, several weeks into the semester the business math class (BUSI 10) started teaching me the math I needed for calculating formulas to find P/E ratios. It would have been very helpful to take BUSI 10 (business math) before taking the BUSI 3A financial accounting class.
Some advice for students starting this course would be to make sure you have the right amount of time in your schedule. Time management is a big thing so try to get ahead as much as you can because you never know how long it will take you to understand a lesson and its teachings to get a good score on the test.
This is probably one of the most difficult classes you will take or at least it was my most difficult. Try to stay on top of your work. Study for the tests. Do the discussions, they were easy, I was just burnt out and lazy if I am being honest. Dr. Peelman built the discussions in to pad your grade in a very hard course. She spoke about this being a hard course for her when she took it and understood how hard it would be for us. She said that she wished her teachers had given an opportunity to earn some easier points when a chapter was hard and she struggled, she wanted to make sure we have that so we would stay motivated and confident.
I believe you should start to read the chapters on Monday. This is an excellent way to gain an advantage to improve your pace in this course. You get a better understanding to work on the assignments. The assignments will take multiple days and you will need to pace your week. It’s a four unit class and you feel every bit of that.
Use the TASC tutoring center. Students who took her course before work in there and they will help you every week if you schedule appointments with them ahead of time.
We are so excited you're here @
