We want to make it easy for you to enroll your students in a WORK course. The program has changed this year. You will want to review the new courses being offered. A one page three step guide has been created just for MPC Counselors. On this page below the same information you will find in your one page sharable document is listed.
If you have questions scheduling a quick 15 minute meeting during student hours is the best way to connect.
Our MPC internship students are enrolled in work experience education and are guided by our WORK handbook throughout their job/ internship / volunteer experience. They earn college units while they work to meet their learning objectives the employer and student set together before they can begin the course. The course concludes with a performance evaluation, a job site visit, a reflection assignment and a log of a certain amount of hours worked that correlates with the units they are enrolled in. Here is a little more about us and what we do at MPC.
51 hours of work paid or unpaid = 1 unit of Work Experience
Students can be enrolled in .5 - 4 units of Work Experience per semester
Student's may repeat the course as many times as they would like
There is a noncredit version of the course
Work Experience courses can be started and stopped at any time during the semester
A comprehensive guide of WORK: the new MPC Work Experience Education Program
Students fill out an Internship Interest Form: Some students require this course and some are using it as an elective. The way we handle that is a little different. General Student Form (not AUTO, CSIS, or HOSP). Hospitality Student Form or Auto Student Form or Computer Security Information Systems Form
Option 1: Internship placement meeting (paid or unpaid / volunteer) - You can set up an initial meeting here. It can be on zoom or in-person. This meeting will be with Carla Becerra.
Option 2: Student’s who are placed and ready to enroll: You can set up an initial meeting here. It can be on zoom or in-person BMC 202F. This meeting will be with Lindsay Peelman.
Get Started on a Resume - We encourage students to start their resume. I have a walkthrough from my WORK 96 / 496: Professional and Essential Skills class or students can meet with Carla in the Career and Transfer Resource Center.
Sending us an email to enroll your student is not the best way to connect them to us.
We know that this is not ideal, personal connection is great, this process will get the student personal support and allow them to enroll faster. It is with you and your student in mind that we have created this process. We don’t want any students to get lost in our email inbox. Getting them to make that appointment gets them enrolled faster and keeps our email inbox lighter so we have more time for students.
Here is a template email for you to use when referring students to us, you don't need to copy us on it. We appreciate your support and partnership.
