Course Description

Study women in business and leadership roles through both historical and contemporary lenses. Identify the unique challenges women face in these roles, with a focus on culture, race, gender, and society. Learn to harness practical skills that will advance a woman's career, including networking, coaching, workplace politics, non-defensive communication, negotiation, public speaking, and managing up. Consider how to lead with compassion and ethics.

In an effort to make textbooks more accessible to students and to reduce educational costs, Monterey Peninsula College (MPC) offers zero-textbook-cost (ZTC) courses. A ZTC course constitutes one of the following:

Does not require a textbook
Lists its textbook as optional
Makes its textbook available to students free of charge, through lending services or electronic book (e-book) databases.
Uses a free, open educational resource (OER) textbook.
Makes all required readings available for free, via websites or online databases.

- Class slides, chapter summaries, chapter questions, announcements, and quizzes are available on our Canvas e-learning system.

Course Requirements

Internet connection (DSL, LAN, or cable connection desirable)
Access to Lobo Apps and Canvas
Computer with a webcam
On-Campus Computer: We have labs at all of our campuses that are open to students throughout the day and offer various software, printing capabilities, and access.
Digital Equity Programs: Device lending (Chromebooks, calculators, and more) is run through our library. If you are an EOPS student, speak to your EOPS counselor, there may be additional support available to you.

Online Course Structure

This is a fully-online course. All course activities and resources can be found through our course website on Canvas (through Lobo Apps). At designated times throughout the semester, we will participate in a blend of self-paced and group-paced activities using Canvas such as discussion forums, email, journaling, and project sharing. All of the learning activities will be completed in your own time so long as they are completed by the dates and times shown in the course schedule.

There is an attendance policy that is enforced in the first 3 days of class through an introduction / welcome discussion post. Your first post must be made by the 3rd day of the class at midnight, that is how attendance is taken, you run the risk of being dropped in one of my online courses if you miss that assignment for attendance. This is detailed in the syllabus, welcome module, and through a course announcement partnered with a follow-up final reminder announcement on the 3rd day. Online courses require the same level of engagement as if we were showing up to class in-person, we just have to show up online on our own time within the bounds of the assignment due dates. I want you in my class! You have to decide if you want to be in the class :).

It is possible that the syllabus may need to change, due dates may need adjusted throughout the semester.
