IB Career Related Programme
The IB Career-related Programme (IBCP) provides students with career-related opportunities to develop them professionally and personally for life after graduation. The CP provides students the opportunity to be risk takers in their learning, develop critical thinking skills, enhance their reflective skills and strengthen their collaboration skills while having flexibility to access the amazing courses and experiences at MHHS. The learning outcomes in this program further prepare students for post-secondary life whether it is through utilizing language proficiency and reflection, obtaining additional college credits or accreditations and CP Certificate, and how it is applied in their desired careers in an ever changing and developing workforce.
Students in the IBCP certificate program will be eligible for the Patient Care Career Pathway at Mount Horeb High School
IS IB CP right for me?
The program is designed for students who want to focus on career-related study in health sciences, combining academic rigor with practical, real-world experiences to prepare them for further education, apprenticeships or direct employment after graduation; its for students who want to actively engage in career-oriented studies during their Junior and Senior years
This course lies within the Sciences. Students explore the concepts, theories, models and techniques that underpin each subject area and through these develop their understanding of the scientific method.
Must enroll as a Junior
240 hours of class/lab time required
Course meets both semesters Junior and Senior year
2 high school credits in Science
Score 4 or higher on IB Exam(1-7 scale) can earn college credit(3 or more)
Students learn to analyse, discuss and evaluate business activities at local, national and international levels. The course covers a range of organizations from all sectors, as well as the socio-cultural and economic contexts in which those organizations operate.
Students enrolled in IBCP certification will take Business Management Course, Senior year
Non IBCP Certification students can enroll as Junior or Senior starting in 2026/2027 school year
150 hours of class/lab time required
Course meets both semesters
1 high school credit as an Elective
Score of 4 or higher on IB Exam(1-7 scale) can earn college credits (3)
The IBO requires a fee for the IB courses and examinations. The assessments take place in the final year of an IB course, and the IB course fees are included in the student’s registration fees for that year. IB assessment fees are approximately $122 per course. (IB Sports Exercise and Health / Business Management Only)
Personal and Professional Skills and Career Related course provides students with a combination of academic and practical skills.
Four interrelated components form the core:
Personal and Professional Skills Course (PPS)
Students enrolled in IBCP certification will take PPS Course, Junior and Senior year
Non IBCP Certification students can enroll as Junior or Senior
90 hours of class/lab time required
Course meets both semesters
1 high school credit per year - 2 credits for IBCP Certification Students
Additional classroom hours in PPS class time will serve as scheduled time for all of “The Core” hours requirements
2. Service Learning - a teaching method that combines academic learning with community service to help students develop skills and knowledge in real- world situations - 50 Hours required and portfolio
3. Language Development - Students will have access to a language course or program that will assist and further their understanding of different perspectives and cultures. Students complete a language portfolio - 70 Hours required
4. Reflective Project - an in-depth piece of work that focuses on an ethical dilemma related to the students career-related studies. The project, worked on in PPS over Junior and Senior year, can be submitted as a written essay of up to 3000 words, or an essay with additional format such as short film, presentation, interview, or display and 1000 words of reflection. - 50 hours required
Students enrolling in IB certification are required to take one career related course a year that is offered through the Career and Technical Education(CTE) Department.
