Welcome! My name is Mrs. Rachel Richards and I am excited to be your child’s mathematics teacher this year. A little bit about me: I received a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Science, and Technology as well as a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Kean University. I have experience teaching 7th grade math, pre-algebra, and algebra 1. I am passionate about finding creative and memorable ways to teach math and I love incorporating technology in instruction. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, playing tennis, and spending time outdoors with my dog Charlie.
I am looking forward to having a wonderful year. My goal for the 2023-2024 school year is to develop students’ number sense and to see each one of them grow to their fullest potential as a mathematics student. I have put various support measures in place to make this happen, which I will continue to encourage your child to take advantage of. These include lesson resources on Google Classroom and help sessions scheduled during OP.
I believe that when teacher, student, and parent work together each child is set up for success. Therefore, I consider it of extreme importance that you be an active part of your child's education. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions. I can be reached via email at rhalek@mountainsideschools.org or by phone at 908-232-8826 x 346. I will keep you informed throughout the year by sending home class reports and by contacting you directly by email and phone. Assignments, test dates, and other valuable information about math class will be posted on Google Classroom and Google Calendar, which you can access on this website.
I consider it a great privilege and responsibility to be your child's teacher and I look forward to having a wonderful year.
Warm Regards,
Mrs. Rachel Richards
