Hello! My name is Madison, and welcome to my 7th grade TPOL! Here I'm going to share a bit about myself. A few things I enjoy making are 3D art pieces as in paper mache, room decorations, and things to sell on my Etsy shop! I also enjoy riding Western. I feel like I've grown a bunch in math this year. I struggled a bunch in 6th grade and it really ruined my confidence in math, but this year I've had a bunch of help and now feel a lot better about it.

7th Grade lens

The 7th grade lens is identity, What identity means to me is how you truly see yourself and who you are. At the start of the year I didn't know how I saw myself, and I just didn't feel very confident. Now that it's the end of the year I feel so much more confident and I see myself as funny and kind, I've changed a bunch throughout the year in math, art, and just in general, I think the biggest thing that helped me change are my teachers because I am doing so much better in my classes. It's hard to think of what's stayed the same because so much has changed.

Inspiring community Member

My significant adult Ms. Amanda Martin because she has helped me so much in math and is the reason I feel so confident about it. She inspired me by making me feel a lot better with my math skills and teaching me to work hard.

Respect

In school with respect at the beginning of the year I would just say yeah when someone complimented me because I felt kinda embarrassed but now I've been saying thank you a lot more. Same with outside of school I've just been saying thank you a lot more. I also showed respect when we were in intersession I said Thank you to the van drivers and the restaurant servers.

Effort

In school I've been putting a bunch of effort in math because I know I struggled a bunch last year also in the beginning of the year if we had something due that I hadn't finished yet I would not want to work on it at home and would try to find another way. Now, I'm working on things like essays at home because I know it needs to get done and I need to have some responsibility. But outside of school I used effort to learn my sewing machine. At the beginning of the year I didn't feel motivated and was too afraid to learn how to use it but now I just decided to wing it and figure it out, which worked and I made my own sweat pants! What effort means to me is working hard and trying your hardest .I demonstrated effort in art when working on our future fossils, even though I was sick when we wrote our artist statements I worked very hard on the coyote skull.

Integrity

And finally integrity. At the beginning of the year I was afraid of hurting someone's feelings if I gave my honest opinion, but now I have been able to share it in a nice way. How I've showed integrity is when we have to give our peers feedback, I answer honestly and show them some things they need to refine.

Refinement

In school I used refinement to go over my Buddhism essay. In the beginning of the year I felt too lazy to go over essays or any work but now I see the importance in it and used it to fix things in my essay and other work which has been getting me better grades. Outside of school I used refinement to refine my art projects like my pants or paintings. At the beginning of the year I didn't refine them and just wanted to be done but now because I started refining my art , it looks even better. I showed refinement when I made my final timeline look better and more professional than my rough draft. I also used refinement when making my rough drafts map, by tracing over the pencil lines with a sharpie and making it more clean looking.

Ownership

At the beginning of the year, I demonstrated ownership by recognizing areas where I needed to do better and putting in effort to improve them. I understood ownership to mean taking responsibility and doing what's right. When my Buddhism essay was due by Friday and I knew I wouldn't have enough time to finish it at school, I took ownership and worked on it at home during my own time. By the end of this year, my understanding of ownership has changed to mean not just taking responsibility, but also following through and improving my skills. I took my peers' feedback on our group map and timeline, making them much better.

Helpfulness

At the beginning of the year, I demonstrated being helpful by helping my peers when they had questions or if they were confused with something. I understood being helpful to mean answering questions or helping my classmates when they ask. I contributed to our group timeline when we really needed to finish it, and I refined and added all the dates which helped my group a lot and took one big thing off our plate. By the end of this year, I now see helpfulness as actively looking for ways to support others, not just having to be asked. I've now been contributing more in group work and projects, and I have asked them what they need and or want me to do while also finding ways others can too.

Respect

At the beginning of the year, I demonstrated being respectful by trying to pay attention in class and say thank you a bit more. I understood being respectful to mean treating others kindly and listening with your full attention to what they have to say. I have followed the classroom expectations and listened when a teacher or peer is talking or giving me advice. By the end of this year, I have been saying thanks a lot more and giving people my full respect. My understanding of respect has grown to include listening more carefully and responding thoughtfully to others. I have said thank you to tons more people and I have been more polite towards others.

Overall Growth: This year, I grew a lot as a person by becoming more responsible, independent, and aware of how my actions could affect others. I learned more about accountability and how important it is to keep improving even when things don't go perfectly. I also became better at working with others, communicating, and asking for help instead of ignoring problems. Over the course of the year, I gained more confidence in myself and earned from both successes and mistakes, which helped me mature and grow as a learner. As I move onto 8th grade, I plan to continue improving my responsibility, organization, and communication skills. I want to take what I have learned from my mistakes and use it to make better choices and stay more consistent with my work. I also want to continue growing in confidence, helping others more, and becoming a stronger learner and person overall.

Conclusion: Overall, this year helped me better understand my identity and who I am as a student and person. Through my experiences, challenges, and growth, I learned more about my strengths, areas I needed to work on, and how my actions could affect myself and others around me. 7th grade helped me become more responsible, self aware, creative, and confident, and it gave me a better understanding of the kind of person I want to continue becoming.
