Math Team season lasts from October through March (sometimes into April). An informational meeting is scheduled for late September each year for the season. Students can still join later in the season as well. The math content level of the contests are HS math content from algebra through precalculus.
We meet most Mondays and Tuesdays after school in room 208. We use a google classroom for Math Team including the season schedule, resources like past exams, and announcements. Advisors are Leah Higginbotham (leah.higginbotham@mvpschools.org) and Michael Huberty.
Our season consists mostly of two main Math Leagues and some other contests in addition to those.
MSHS Math League has 5 meets over the regular season. At least two of the meets we travel to nearby schools to compete, and the other meets we hold at MV competing online with other teams. All events are no calculator allowed. We have qualified and gone to the State Tournament for as many years as I can remember.
The Math League is a set of 6 contests over the season. These we administer at our school and send in results online, competing against other MN schools. All of these contests are calculator allowed.
For the other contests, we do ask students sign-up for these with us on a google form (posted on the google classroom), since we register and pay as a group per student. Students NOT on math team can also compete in these. But we do need to register in advance, so please communicate with the advisors (email).
American Mathematics Competitions (AMC 10 & 12). This contest is no calculator allowed. We proctor one date of the AMC 10 and 12 at MV, through their online system. If students qualify for further rounds, we also proctor those.
St Cloud State Univ Math Contest is a contest that we go to SCSU for the day. This contest is calculator allowed.
MSU Mankato Math Contest is a contest that we go to MSU for the day. This contest is no calculator allowed.
