Physical literacy is the ability to move with competence and confidence in a wide range of physical activities that are essential to everyday life, including sports and recreational pursuits. It involves the development of fundamental movement skills, such as running, jumping, throwing, and catching, along with the understanding, motivation, and responsibility to engage in physical activities throughout life. Physical literacy supports overall health and well-being by encouraging individuals to be active, make informed choices about their physical health, and enjoy a physically active lifestyle.
Dear Parents,
I am excited to provide your child with an engaging and rewarding physical education program. P.E. classes at Mother Seton School play a vital role in both their physical and social development. I take great pride in our program and am committed to offering the best possible instruction.
Our physical education program is designed to enhance students' personal fitness and motor skills through developmentally appropriate activities. By incorporating purposeful, creative, and enjoyable instruction, we aim to foster positive attitudes towards physical activity and movement. Through challenging yet achievable tasks, students will build confidence and a love for staying active.
Throughout the school year, your child’s locomotor skills, manipulative abilities, behavior, and fitness levels will be monitored and assessed. Participation is expected to the best of their ability each day they attend class. However, if illness or injury limits their participation, please send a note with a brief description of the restriction. A doctor’s note will be required if the condition restricts activity for more than one consecutive class.
Safety is my top priority. To ensure your child’s well-being during P.E., they should wear athletic or running shoes. Shoes with heels, boots, or sandals. Crocs are not suitable for safe participation. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather, with jackets, hats, and gloves on colder days. Students should bring a water bottle to class, as we only have water filling stations, and most classes are held outside.
If your child has any ongoing health concerns or restrictions that I should be aware of, please provide a detailed note with instructions regarding their participation limitations.
Each class will have a designated P.E. day each week. The classroom teacher will have a schedule posted, and a master schedule will be available in the gym and on my teacher page.
Thank you for your support. I look forward to working with your child this year.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Amber Reaver
