In Mote's single-color logo seals, the bottom half of the shark should always be lighter than the top half of the shark, in order to mimic the countershading of real sharks.
When using the white "knockout" logo seal, the bottom of the shark is always white, and the top of the shark is the same color as the background.
Converting the white logo to black (or other dark color)
When the white logo is converted to a dark color, the bottom of the shark becomes darker than the top of the shark, which is inaccurate and therefore incorrect.
When using the dark logo seal, the top of the shark is always the same color as the rest of the logo, and the bottom of the shark is the same color as the background.
Converting the dark logo to white (or other light color)
When the dark logo is converted to a light color, the top of the shark becomes lighter than the bottom of the shark, which is inaccurate and therefore incorrect.
Mote's logo seal was refreshed in 2014. If you have an older version of our logo on file, please replace it with the newer versions linked above.
Curved shark, darker center, disconnected white lines at the shark's head and caudal fin (tail)
This version has been retired and should be replaced with the new seal when encountered.
Straight shark, lighter center, uniform white lines outlining all parts of the logo
This is the correct version of the Mote seal and should be used moving forward.
