ESCI 2201. (GenEd: ENVT) Field Experience in Environmental Challenges of the Italian
Alps.(4cr). No Prerequisites. Study of the impact of geologic processes such as tectonism,
mass movement, and flooding; understanding climate change through the observation of
vegetation changes and glacier fluctuations; soil and water resources and the
archaeological record of the nature of human settlements in the Alps..
Geol 4140 – Advanced Glacial and Quaternary Geology (4cr). Prerequisite: Geol 1101.
Topics will include -the glacial record of the Italian Alps, modern glaciers and recent
changes in the glacial environment. Climate change and the future of glaciers in Tyrol.
Impact of glacier fluctuations on water supply and agriculture.
Brunnenburg faculty will teach:
1. ANTH 2039: Agro-Archaeology (2 cr); introduction to the history and prehistory
of agriculture, drawing from the resources of the Tyrolean Alps, and examination
of the impact of changes in agriculture on the social and religious realm (GenEd: SS)
2. PHIL 2114: Environmental Ethics (4 cr); survey of fundamental theoretical
debates in environmental ethics; overview of general moral approaches and
major positions in environmental ethics (GenEd: ENVT )
3. ENST 2201: Practicum in Sustainable Agriculture (4 cr;); course develops skills
and knowledge in sustainable agriculture through practical experience
in Brunnenburg's vineyards, orchards, and permaculture garden and working
with their heritage breeds of farm animals; required as part of Brunnenburg program
