1) Students must be present and participate in class for a minimum of 36 class periods in the Tuesday/Thursday group and 38 class periods for the Monday/Wednesday group (due to early out schedule on Wednesdays).
2) Students will use Zoom to attend class during E Learning Days @ 12:30PM.
3) Students must pass the classroom training with 80% proficiency or better.
4) Students must be 15 years of age to take their permit test and 16 years of age to take their road test.
5) Note that there is an option to wait to take your driving test until after you are 18 years of age. If you wait until then, the classroom and behind the wheel training are not required.
5) All students must log their driving hours with a parent or guardian. Present this log when taking the State of Minnesota's road test.
6) Once the student has passed the State of Minnesota's written test (taken after the classroom training is complete and a grade of 80% or better has been achieved on the classroom test), they should notify Jeannie Maanum in the district office so behind-the-wheel training can begin.
Students must schedule their behind-the-wheel training with the driver's ed instructors. As there are a lot of students and limited resources, last minute changes should be kept to a absolute minimum -- if not completely avoided. We ask that the students make every attempt to adhere to their agreed upon schedule.
Students may NOT use or talk on a mobile phone while driving, with or without a hands-free device.
Students must be respectful of all students and staff throughout this process.
The instruction permit is valid for two years from the date of the application. You may renew your permit without taking another written test if this is done before it has expired.
In Morris, the driver’s written and behind-the-wheel tests are given at the Morris Community Center, 603 Oregon Ave., Morris MN 56267. The tests are given the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month.
2024-25 fee is $400.00 which includes classroom training and behind-the-wheel instruction. A $193.00 fee is assessed if the student is ONLY taking the classroom training.
This fee must be paid before a completion letter can be issued stating the student has passed the 30 hours of classroom training. No behind-the-wheel training will be permitted until the fees are paid.
Note: These fees do not include permit and license fees issued by the State of Minnesota.
See the MN Dept of Public Safety, Driver and Vehicle Services for specific information about licensure.
