About Me

My name is Thomas Godtland. I am a Multimedia Communications and Graphic Design Major. 

I went to Morningside University where I was the band president for a time. I have been playing the trumpet since 5th grade and continued in college. I like playing in Pep Band the most but I also participated in the Wind Ensemble, M Avenue Jazz, and the All America Concert Band. After graduation I plan to continue playing in the All America Concert Band. 

Artist Statement: 

I am a graphic designer with a wide range of interests that I enjoy capturing digitally.

My work often centers on animals and playful, lighthearted concepts-such as a tiger wearing a suit and sunglasses—that lean into humor, personality, and a sense of fun. I am drawn to creating pieces that don't take themselves too seriously, while still being thoughtfully designed and visually engaging. Many of my projects incorporate my personal interests, allowing my work to feel expressive, imaginative, and authentic. In addition to illustration, I am well versed in designing logos and creating promotional content, and I enjoy applying the same creativity and attention to detail across all areas of my design work.

My interest in art began with doodling in class, where classmates responded positively to what I created. They often offered suggestions on what I should draw next, which introduced me to a collaborative and idea-driven approach to making art. I found that having outside input helped spark new ideas and pushed me to explore subjects I might not have considered on my own. That dynamic has stayed with me throughout my creative process, even as my skills and tools have evolved.

Today, I continue to enjoy turning silly, unexpected ideas into finished digital pieces that I can look back on and share with others. Whether I am illustrating a humorous concept or designing visual content with a clear purpose, I aim to create work that is approachable, memorable, and enjoyable. At the core of my practice is a love for experimenting, having fun, and bringing ideas —no matter how small or goofy-to life through design.
