At the end of the school year, taking a few simple steps to clean up and back up your digital work ensures that nothing important is lost and that you're set up for a smooth start in the fall. Archiving Google Classrooms protects your course content while keeping things tidy. Backing up files—both online and locally—guards against data loss due to account changes, reimaging, or device replacements. It’s a small investment of time that saves stress and frustration later.
If you save files on your desktop, Downloads folder, or local Documents folder, make sure to back those up!
Google Drive → Preferred for accessibility and long-term access.
District File Server → Preferred if you use a shared school network drive.
Flash Drive → Acceptable, but less secure and not cloud-based.
🔖 Bookmarks only transfer between devices if they are synced to your Google account. Double-check that sync is enabled.
❌ Shortcuts (links to files, not the actual files) cannot be backed up. These will need to be recreated manually after reimaging or on a new device.
As we wrap up the school year, it's important to archive your Google Classrooms and back up your professional data. Doing so protects your materials, ensures smooth access in the fall, and keeps your Google account organized and efficient.
How to Archive Google Classrooms
