Hello and Welcome! I grew up in Flowery Branch in Hall County, attended the University of Georgia for undergrad (Dual BS. Chemistry and Science Ed, Double Dawg, GO DAWGS), Georgia State University for my Masters in Education, and Columbus State University for my Specialist in Science Education and Leadership.
I have taught Chemistry, IB and AP Physics, Physical Science, and Astronomy at Morgan County High School since 2012. I have also taught night school classes for all science subjects at Foothills Charter High School - Madison Campus from 2017-2021 and worked from 2021-2022 for the regional office as the Regional Instructional Services Coordinator for all schools. During my time with schools, I have served in many different roles, including Project-Based Learning (PBL) coach, department head, instructional coach, tech guru, and much more. Most recently since 2022 I have been the K-12 Science Coordinator for Morgan County Schools and I have been performing this role while continuing to teach courses at the high school.
I have also had the opportunity to work out in the field, serving with several organizations. In the summer of 2018, I was honored with the opportunity to work as an educational consultant for the NASA Exploration Ground Systems Program at Kennedy Space Center. There I created physics lessons related to NASA’s upcoming Artemis missions by working with engineers and scientists in the program. In 2020, I was selected by the SETI Institute to fly on the NASA SOFIA Aircraft as an Airborne Astronomy Ambassador to bring stronger astronomy resources to our district and students. Closer to home, I was voted and served as the District 2 director for the Georgia Science Teachers Association, where I lead 18 counties and helped to plan two annual GSTA conference for the state in 2021 and 2022, and the national NSTA conference in March of 2023. In 2020, I was honored to be the MCHS Teacher of the Year and in 2023 the Georgia High School Science Teacher of the Year.
I live with his wife Miranda (also an educator at MCES) and two amazing and creative boys, Landon (7) and Ollie (5) in Madison right by the school system. Reading, LEGOs, Camping and Astrophotography take up my free time and give me an outlet for my creative side.
Excited for a phenonmenal school year ahead! Welcome to our classroom!
