The Sixties ~ a period of great social change in America. Politically, the 1960's were dominated by the Vietnam War, Civil Rights Protests, and the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King. Socially, the era is known for its "youth culture" with the emergence of Rock~n~Roll music, Drive-in movie theaters, and car culture.

The music of the Sixties Era was incredibly diverse. Rock and pop music flourished across the radio airwaves. Bands such as the Beatles and the Beach Boys were making a name for themselves with the emerging youth culture. Elvis Presley remained particularly cool among "Greasers."
Movies:
Teens flocked to "drive-in" movie theaters to watch the latest beach-party themed films featuring the likes of Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello along with the surf-inspired sounds of Dick Dale or the Ventures. MGM studios featured a run of Elvis Presley movies such as "Jailhouse Rock" or "Blue Hawaii".Movies:
Actors such as Paul Newman made a name for themselves with films that appealed to the gritty working class. "The Hustler" from 1961 is a fine example. Marlon Brando also rose to fame during the 1950's and 1960's with his iconic portrayal of a gang leader in the film "The Wild One" which is considered to be the original outlaw biker film.
