Benefits of Reading 

There are so many reasons to read, but did you know that reading can actually calm your mind? A 2009 study at the University of Sussex found that reading can reduce stress. Reading a book that you enjoy can lower your heart rate and ease the tension in your muscles.  Additionally, reading increases your empathy and critical thinking skills. 

You can reap the benefits of reading as a family. Set aside 30 minutes everyday to read together. Everyone can read their own book while enjoying being together, or choose a book to read together as a family for a shared reading experience. Take turns reading out loud for added fun. Don't forget to talk about what you are reading!
