Dear Family,
Welcome to my class! I am pleased to inform you that I will be your child's kindergarten teacher this school year. I am very excited to have this opportunity to work with you and your child.
I am truly looking forward to a very fun, exciting, and successful school year for both you and your child. To ensure this success, communication is very important. Our best source of communication will be your child's papers. Please check your child's backpack daily. First, and most importantly, you are able to monitor your child's progress by checking their daily work. I write on the worksheets to let you know if your child is having trouble in a certain area and needs extra practice. Next, you are up-to-date with classroom and school news. Finally, you never know what surprises you may discover in your child's backpack!
If you should ever have a question or concern, please do not hesitate to send me a note in your child's folder (this would be the best way, please use a clip and attach it to the folder), email (smithc@montourschools.com), or give me a call (412.489.8300 x 3118). I promise to get back to you as soon as possible.
Welcome! We are off to a great start!
Sincerely,
Ms Smith :)
I am looking forward to having your child in my class and expect to have an exciting and rewarding year. Our classroom is a small community where teamwork and good relationships are expected. We will spend time learning class procedures and practicing them. Each student is expected to act within the standards of good behavior. To establish order and help the children learn self-control, they will be guided to respect themselves and their companions through specific directions, positive reinforcement, suggested new activities and responsible actions.
Our classroom discipline system includes a colored Popsicle stick system. The first time a child breaks a rule, he/she will be given a verbal reminder. Nothing will happen as he/she reflects on whether that behavior was a good "choice".
Every child will begin the day with a "clean slate" and a purple stick in our Behavior Chart. If the child chooses to break a rule after a verbal reminder, his/her stick will change to green. Continued misbehavior will result in the stick changing to yellow and finally to red.
The rules/consequences for the Popsicle stick changes, and rewards for following our rules are listed below.
Rules:
I will raise my hand to speak and wait to be recognized.
I will stay in my seat and work quietly during seatwork time.
I will listen and follow directions.
I will keep my hands and feet to myself and my own property.
I will be kind to others.
Consequences:
A. Excellent behavior: Purple stick
B. First Offense: A verbal reminder as a warning.
C. Second Offense: Change stick to Green.
D. Third Offense: Change stick to Yellow and miss 10 minutes of recess.
E. Fourth Offense: Change stick to red and miss all of recess. Parents will receive either a phone call or note if it is consistent.
Rewards: Children with a purple or green stick will get a reward or treat for the day. Those who maintain a purple or a green stick for the week will also get an extra prize or treat on Friday. It is in your child's best interest that we work together. Thanks for your support!
