Our special schedules run on a 9 day repeating rotation this year. Please use the Weekly Reminders that will be updated below and sent home in the binder at the start of each week to help keep track of our special schedule.
The most important homework in first grade is to READ, READ, READ! This reading may include our decodable books, our weekly story, and any books of your child’s choice that are on his or her reading level.
The amount of other homework is based on your child's needs and will include:
Studying/Practicing the weekly spelling words until he/she has mastered them
Practicing our Words to Know (Sight Words) until they are consistently read fluently
Practicing addition and subtraction math facts to reach fluency with them
A study packet will be placed in the binder at the start of each lesson and suggested homework will be on the Weekly Reminders. These are not required, but are a great resource for those students who may need or want the extra practice. Your child's study and homework needs may vary from lesson to lesson and also as we progress through the school year.
A Math Homework Workbook will also be sent home at the beginning of the year and math suggested practice pages will be listed on the Weekly Reminders. These also are not required, but are a great resource for those who may need or want the extra practice.
Students should also use our Clever Site resources for extra practice and support at home in both reading and math.
Our Classroom Behavior Management system is centered around the school's "3 B's." We work together as a classroom community to define and expand upon what the 3 B's look like within our classroom. These behaviors are practiced, modeled, and rewarded throughout the year. As we all make mistakes, the students are taught to learn from them and positive changes are rewarded.
We do not use a color system in our classroom for behavior, so I will communicate students' positive behaviors as well as any behaviors they may need to grow and learn from throughout the year. "Grow Notes" will be sent home as needed to let you know I am working with your child to improve a specific behavior. Your support at home is important to your child's success. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any concerns about your child's behavior.
Classroom Rewards to Encourage Positive Behavior, Attitude, and Work Ethic:
Brag Bracelets
Keaton Cash (to be used for prizes and prize coupons)
Bonus Keaton Cash
GLOW notes sent home
Whole-Class Reward Days/Activities

Let's work together to have a great year!
