Frequently asked questions

What are classes like with 882 Online?

Most courses are asynchronous (kids work independently on their own time, at their own pace).  We do have synchronous class options where students meet virtually at specified times.  We also have hybrid courses (mostly asychronous, with 1-2 expected Google meets per week).

How is attendance taken?

Per State of MN statute, attendance is taken daily for all students.  882 Online students are required to attend a daily 15 minute grade-level virtual meeting for attendance purposes.

How do I know if online learning is right for my student?

This is difficult to gauge.  Online learning requires students to be self-directed and self-motivated.   It also places a large amount of responsibility of families to create environments at home that are conducive to learning.  If your child can independently manage 3-4 hours of schoolwork per day and can advocate for help when needed, there is a strong likelihood that online learning will be a proper fit.

Are students successful with 882 Online?

Roughly 90% of all online courses taken were successfully completed during the 2022/2023 academic year.  While this encourages that students CAN be successful online, the choice to do online learning should be considered with great care as not all students are well-suited for online learning.

What are the teachers like?

Helpful, balding, personable, kind, quirky, large-nosed, and intentional.  A unique blend:)
