Electrical Distribution Upgrades: As schools use more laptops, tablets, projectors, and interactive whiteboards for teaching and learning, they need more plug-ins for power. Since many classrooms don't have enough plug-ins, it can be a problem. Students and teachers need to have a good way to keep their devices charged and functioning.
Roof Replacement and Repairs: Roof replacement to alleviate the existing failing roof issues. Roof sections being replaced are aligned with the district's most recent roof plan.
Multi-function Learning Commons/Lunchroom Addition: Currently, students receive their lunches in the hallway and then walk to the auditorium to eat. Adding this new commons area would keep the food all in one location resulting in more efficient use of time by cleaning one area and not having to clean hallways and setting up and breaking down of tables in the auditorium.
The Commons would be available for creative and collaborative teaching and learning opportunities during the school day. This area could also be a valuable community resource for local organizations and clubs like 4-H, Boys and Girl Scouts, businesses, and other groups to utilize after school and during the evening.
The Commons area will also add to the overall experience of performances in the auditorium. Spectators will have a gathering area for before, during, and after each performance; and will also provide a more manageable flow of people exiting the auditorium.
Fine Arts Suite: The fine arts suite renovation will make changes to the space behind the stage to create changing rooms for actors, storage and a place to change clothes. By making these changes, the stage area becomes more organized and convenient. It helps the actors feel comfortable and ready to perform their best. And with a proper storage area, all the necessary items for the show are right there when they're needed.
Classroom Renovations: Enhance all classrooms with current technology and furniture upgrades. This will provide better and more opportunities for future-ready teaching and learning.
Locker Room Renovation: The locker rooms close to the old gymnasium need to be improved because they don't meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines. This allows everyone the ability to use the locker rooms without issues. Upgrades to the locker rooms will also provide an updated and welcoming environment for students, community members and visiting athletic teams.
Restroom Renovation: The restrooms in the Elementary hallway need to be renovated to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines. These updated restrooms will be be consistent with the more recently updated restrooms near the competition gym. Two Elementary classroom restrooms will be made larger to accommodate the requirements of ADA guidelines.
Athletic Field Renovations: This is a significant upgrade to our athletic facilities. On the east side of the school, we would develop a new football field and track. On the west side, a new baseball field.
The current track has sizable cracks, and the subsurface supporting it has eroded, making repair a costly endeavor—nearly $1,000,000. Instead of investing in a standalone track at its current location, we would relocate it around the the repositioned football field, creating a stadium atmosphere.
The new stadium will be equipped with a scoreboard for football that will also include timing feature for track events. We will use the existing lighting from the current football field for the stadium so we can host larger track events after sunset. We also plan on using our current bleachers in the new stadium.
Most importantly, the fan experience will be vastly improved, offering Montezuma parents, fans, and visitors a comfortable setting to enjoy both football and track events. With increased seating capacity and a top-quality track, we'll also be capable of hosting larger meets and potentially serve as a venue for postseason track events sponsored by the Iowa High School Athletic Association. This, in turn, will provide an economic boost to our local businesses.
Additionally, we would create additional parking on the west side of the stadium to accommodate the growing number of attendees for football and track events. This, along with new paved walkways and other ADA accessibility improvements ensures that everyone can conveniently enjoy our upgraded facilities.
Updated PK and Elementary Outdoor Playgrounds: We will create a secure and fun playground experience for every student. This entails a comprehensive redesign that adheres to ADA standards. We'll incorporate recently acquired playground equipment into the new layout along with a uniform playground surface to ensure universal access and safe collective play for all students. This remodel will improve access and supervision.
Miscellaneous Projects: Replacement of vinyl flooring, painting, and playground equipment relocation and additions will be addressed as scope allows.
