Thunder Hawk Care began as a non-profit called Kinder Kare Inc. that was incorporated in 1969 as a community project to address the need for childcare in Montevideo. 

1987

Kinder Kare charged between 85 cents-$1.35 per hour!

1994

Kinder Kare's 25th Anniversary Celebration!

2011

Throughout the years, the location of the program frequently changed. Until 2011, when Kinder Kare was moved to one of the Elementary Schools in town. 

2012

Kinder Kare's Preschool Program received a Four-Star Rating from Parent Aware. Thunder Hawk Care remains Four Star rated to this day. 

2013

Kinder Kare added a Toddler Room! 

2014

Kinder Kare added an Infant Room! 

Kinder Kare's 45th Anniversary Celebration!

2016

From 2011-2016 the program rented the classrooms it used from the school district. By 2016 Kinder Kare joined the district's pre-existing School Age program, thus establishing themselves as Thunder Hawk Care. Little Thunder Hawks is our Infant, Toddler, and Preschool programs. Junior Thunder Hawks is our School Age Program.

2021

Thunder Hawk Care was the Districts recipient of the "Friends of Education" award. The program received this award for the hard work and dedication for care provided during COVID in 2020.  

2022

Thunder Hawk Care moved to our current location, Hawks Nest Early Childhood Center. Hawks Nest was built to support the district's Early Childhood programs- Thunder Hawk Care, Small world Nursery School, Early Childhood Family Education, and Early Childhood Special Education.  

2024

Thunder Hawk Care's Infant and Toddler programs received a Two-Star Rating from Parent Aware.
