What is Discovery II?

The Discovery II Program is a grant funded program sponsored by the Chippewa County CARE Collaborative and the Montevideo School District. It serves the students of the Montevideo Middle School by providing a safe environment for students to talk with with a licensed school social worker and their peers about their feelings, mental health needs and concerns. The group raises students' awareness levels of how to improve their ability to help themselves and others with similar issues. Students are given an opportunity to build skills including coping skills, problem solving, assertiveness, stress management identifying values, organization and setting personal goals.

Students who have experienced difficulties in the community, at home and/or at school will be given priority admission to the program as well as students who have a pre-identified qualification for special education such as EBD or a mental health diagnosis. Students who have participated in the Discovery Program at the elementary level are often referred as well.
