Traveling not only makes you smarter by expanding your mind and your knowledge about the world, it makes you happy and reduces stress.
Everyone needs to learn how to plan a vacation and everything that is required to do it successfully.
After concluding this project you will be able to plan a vacation to any place in the world!
In this fun project, you will take on a challenge to plan the best vacation while spending the least amount of money.
First, you will pick your favorite vacation place. After that, you will research and find important information about that place, including how to get there and where to stay.
You will make a travel plan that includes fun things to do and see. You will also learn about local food and choose the best restaurants to eat at.
To help you keep track of your money, you will create a budget to plan your expenses.
Finally, you will share your amazing vacation plan with the class in an audiovisual presentation.
Tropical vacation? A city escape? Exciting theme parks? A secluded nature retreat?
Research in 3 different sources which are the best vacation destinations for 2025. This will help you expand your horizons and open your mind!
Then, on your notebook, write a composition about your dream vacation spot.
The composition must include:
The place you chose.
The reasons why you chose this place over every other place.
Who would you want to take with you and why.
Write your 3 sources of information.
Write between 150 and 200 words.
The first thing you need to have is factual information about your destination.
Research in 3 or more sources and find the following information about your destination:
Location (continent, country, state or region, surrounding cities, important geography).
Average temperatures and rainfall (to select desired traveling dates).
Interesting facts (cultural, social, historical, political, economic).
Add pictures, images or video.
Cite your sources in APA format.
Put all this information in a digital format (pages, keynote, notes, etc.) so you can use it later.
Remember to paraphrase, plagiarism is not permitted.
Once you are done, send to your teacher for revision.
How do you plan to get to your destination? What is the most cost effective way to get there?
Go to one of the travel webpages and get the following travel information:
Flight information, connections and layovers.
Best dates to travel according to price.
Your selected dates (departure and return).
Any cost for layover stays, land travel or additional flights to get to your destination.
Total cost of your round trip.
All your information needs to be in a digital format. When you are finished submitted to the teacher for revision.

A budget is an important tool when traveling, it will help you keep track of all your expenses.
In a spreadsheet (numbers, excel, google spreadsheets, etc), select a templete and design your budget format.
It needs to include the following information:
6 columns divided into: Description, supplier, type, quantity, unit cost, subtotal amount.
A row for each individual expense.
A formula for the subtotal amount in each row and the grand total in column G.
Keep in mind that you will have to add a pie chart once all the information is recorded and before you turn your budget in, so keep it nice and organized.
Once you have your budget spreadsheet ready, start adding your traveling expenses. You will be adding more information as the project goes on.
Where are you going to stay? What type of accommodation are you interested in staying?
There are a lot of possibilities that can adapt to your needs and budget, luxury, economy, B&B, vacation rental, hostel or even couch surfing.
Go to one of the websites you used for searching your flight and now look for accommodations. Type in the lenght of stay and review the options available.
Before you choose what is best for you, remember that part of your project is to find something cost effective, where you get the best option for the least amount of money.
Select your accommodation, according to your length of stay, the price and the amenities it offers.
Record the information on a digital format so you can use it for your presentation.
Select pictures of the accommodations to illustrate your presentation.
Record the sources of your pictures in APA format, so you can add to your final presentation.
Add the information to your travel budget , specifying accommodation in the column TYPE.
Once you are done, submit to your teacher for revision.
Now you know how you are getting there and where you are staying, it's time to plan what you are doing while you are there.
Which places are you interested in visiting? What activities do you plan on doing? Consider the length of you stay so you can take advantage of the time you have there.
You will have to do thorough research to find out not only the cost but the time which they are available (service hours).
Try to do you search in local webpages and the webpages directly from the attractions, since they have first hand and updated information on operation hours and cost.
Remember to save all the information for your presentation, as well as pictures or videos, and cite your sources in APA format.
Once you have everything, add each concept to your budget.
Turn your work in for revision.
Your plans are almost finished, but we can't forget about food.
Every region has its own local cuisine and special dining spots.
It's time to find out which are the local dishes you would like to try and the restaurants you are interested in visiting.
Take a look at their webpages, explore their menus, consider how much a meal will cost according to the amount of people who are travelling with you.
You can use Tripadvisor to help you decide, they have very useful reviews and also a ranking of local restaurants that can help you choose the best options, youtube videos are also useful.
Also consider the expenses for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, so check out the convenience stores too.
Save the information digitally to add to your presentation, as well as images and the sources of information.
Finally, add all food expenses to your budget and turn in to your teacher for revision.
When travelling, it is always important to know what you are doing each day. This will help you make the most of your time there and not forget to do anything that you wanted to do.
An itinerary is a schedule of events that are happening during your stay.
Create an itinerary in a digital format using Canva.
Add design to it (colors, fonts, etc)
Your itinerary needs to show dates, days, activities and duration of each activity.
Submit your work for revision.
It is time to share your plans with your class. With a Keynote or powerpoint presentation you will have to explain your plans in detail.
Your presentation must include the following information:
Destination: Place, location, interesting facts and reasons for travelling there.
Traveling arrangements: Dates, airlines, flight numbers and schedules.
Accommodations: Type of accommodation, name, location and amenities.
Itinerary: Divided by days, sites, attractions, entertainment, meals, etc.
Budget: Expense descriptions, subtotal of each concept and the total cost of your vacation.
Your personal opinion on this project, what you learned and if you consider it useful.
