Can parents opt their child out of the ELPAC?
No. State and federal laws require all students whose primary language is other than English, be assessed for English language proficiency until English proficiency reclassification criteria are met.
What does the ELPAC test?
The ELPAC tests four domains to assess English language proficiency:
Listening
Reading
Speaking
Writing
How can parents help their child prepare for the ELPAC?
Read to your child, or have your child read to you in English, daily.
Use pictures and ask your child to tell you in English what they see in the picture or what is happening in the picture.
Talk to your child’s teacher about which areas of learning English (listening, speaking, reading, writing) they may need extra help.
Discuss the test with your child, and make sure he or she feels comfortable and understands the importance of taking the ELPAC.
Have your child take the ELPAC Practice Test to become familiar with the types of test questions on the ELPAC. When students know more about what to expect on the test, they will be better prepared to show what they know and can do in English.

No. Los padres/tutores legales no pueden excluir a su(s) estudiante(s) del ELPAC. Las leyes estatales y federales requieren que todos los estudiantes cuyo idioma principal no es el inglés sean evaluados en su competencia del idioma inglés.
¿Qué evalúa el ELPAC?

¿Cómo pueden los padres ayudar a su estudiante a prepararse para el ELPAC?
Leerle a su estudiante, o que su estudiante lea para usted en inglés todos los días. √ Use dibujos y pídale a su estudiante que le diga en inglés lo que ve o lo que está pasando en el dibujo.
Hable con el/la maestra(a) para saber en cuales áreas del aprendizaje en inglés (comprensión auditiva, expresión oral, lectura, escritura) su estudiante necesita ayuda adicional.
Hable con su estudiante sobre el examen, asegúrese que se sienta a gusto y comprenda la importancia de tomar el ELPAC.
Haga que su estudiante tome el Examen de Práctica ELPAC para que se familiarice con el tipo de preguntas en el examen. Cuando los estudiantes saben que esperar en el examen, estarán mejor preparados para demostrar lo que saben y pueden hacer en inglés.
