How to Access Sora
Here are some simple instructions for how to log in to Sora and how to use basic checkout functions. Essentially, this is Epic!, but with access to more books. Let me know if you have questions, or would like me to come to your class for a demonstration of how to use it. Thanks!
How to Log In:
To log in to your account, go to: https://soraapp.com. Find Montebello Unified School District in the drop down menu. Click the blue button labeled: "Sign in using Montebello Unified School District". It should take your student to Classlink, and then log them in.
To Add Libraries:
Go to the hamburger menu on the upper right hand side of the screen. Click the menu and find the button "Add Libraries". Click "Add Library" and type in L.A. County Library. Make sure it is L.A. County, and not Los Angeles Public Library. Once the library has been added, it will appear in the menu on the right hand side of the screen under Libraries. You can also find your list of libraries on the top left of your screen. Use this left menu to switch between libraries. Make sure that when you log in, your student has access to the MUSD catalogue. Let me know if there are issues.
To check out and read a book:
Search your desired title in the search bar on the top right of the screen. Click the desired title. On the left, under a picture of the book cover, there will be an option to "Borrow", "Read sample" or "Add to List". Click "Borrow". When a book has been borrowed, the menu will change to read "Open book". Click "Open book" and a e-book version of your chosen title will appear on the screen. The books are available for the standard checkout time of two weeks.
To return a book:
After the two week period, your student will be prompted to return their book. Under the "Shelf" menu, navigate to the title you wish to return. Next to the picture of the book, there will be a button that says "Options". Click "Options". When you click "Options" you will be given the opportunity to "Renew" "Return" or "Open Book". Click "Return". You will be asked whether you want to return the title. Click the blue button that says Return. The title should disappear from your shelf.
To access student profile/view books the student has checked out:
Go to the hamburger menu on the upper right hand side of the screen. Click the menu and click the name of the student that appears at the top of the menu. Clicking the name will take you to the account home page. At the bottom of the screen, there will be a menu with labels for "Home", "Explore" a picture of your current book, "Shelf" and "Me".
To view your shelf, or the books you have checked out, select "Shelf". Under the "Shelf" option, you can view the books you have loaned and how many days are left of that loan, the books on hold for you, and any wish lists you make.
How to use each menu item:
Home: Takes you back to the account "Home", the Montebello Unified catalogue.
Explore: Returns you to your current browsing session.
Current book: Returns you to the page you were reading.
Shelf: Takes you to the books you currently have out
