Socratic Seminar #3 Focus

Consider Oedipus and Creon’s exchange. They both seem to project an outer, public persona and an inner persona. Sometimes we know about a character’s inner character because it is told explicitly; sometimes the difference between the character’s outer and inner personas come out through what is inferred. Discuss and analyze how these characters’ outer and inner personas relate to one another. Try to draw connections between the character’s personas and what it says about Thebes society in general, and be sure to point to specific evidence in the text to support your analysis.
